Li-Fraumeni Syndrome

Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is a rare disorder that greatly increases the risk of developing several types of cancer, particularly in children and young adults.

Features of the condition

• breast cancer
• bone and soft tissue sarcomas
• leukemia
• adrenocortical carcinoma
• brain cancer
• childhood cancers
• melanoma
• stomach cancer
• colon cancer
• pancreatic cancer

Risk Factors

• individual with sarcoma, childhood cancer, brain tumor or adrenocortical tumor who has a personal or family history of another LFS cancer (i.e. sarcoma, breast, brain, adrenocortical, leukemia)
• very early onset breast cancer (under age 30)
• Family history of cancers listed above
• Genetic mutations (see below)
