BRCA Quick Facts

5-10% of breast cancers are caused by a BRCA mutation

10-15% of ovarian cancers are caused by BRCA mutation

Approximately 1 in 600 people will carry the BRCA mutation

Woman who carry the BRCA mutation will have an:

87% chance of developing breast cancer

54% chance of developing ovarian cancer

increased risks for pancreatic, melanoma, and stomach cancer

Of Ashkenazi Jewish woman, 1 in 40 will have a BRCA mutation

Men with BRCA mutation have 7% chance of developing breast cancer and an increased risk for prostate cancer
